ELD ADOPTION SURVEY RESULTS
(New weekly polling data added every Monday by 2pm CST.)
RESULTS AS OF: 2/12/2018
RESULTS AS OF: 2/19/2018
This week's ELD survey results and three week moving average each moved up three points to 90%.
This continues the trend over the past few weeks of compliance rates clocking in anywhere between 85% and 95%. Regional fleets are still trailing longer haul fleets, but it seems the compliance gap is narrowing as we approach the final April 1st deadline.
The impact on capacity is looking to be far from the worst case scenario as we move within six weeks of the deadline. This isn't to say capacity isn't going to get worse as we head into peak shipping season.
We've noticed more and more articles in the mainstream press about rising spot rates and tight capacity. This is probably due to public companies citing rising shipping costs as the primary pressure on their margins in the fourth quarter of 2017.
As long as the economy is humming along, where shippers are increasing their load counts, and trucking companies are scrambling to find drivers, articles like the ones below will continue to be written at a frantic pace.
Bloomberg: There Aren't Enough Truckers, and That's Pinching U.S. Profits
New York Times: How Inflation Works (or Why Your Chicken Is Going to Cost More
